You don't always need to travel hundreds of kilometres from Melbourne to find a worthwhile 4WD camping adventure. The forests of Victoria's Yarra Ranges offer a great mix of unsealed roads, forest tracks, historic timber country, scenic lookouts and quiet campsites - all within easy reach of the city.

Covering almost 950 kilometres between Walgett and Wentworth, the route follows the Darling River, or Baaka, through some of the most remote and fascinating country in New South Wales. Rather than being a technical 4WD track, the Darling River Run is about travelling through changing terrain, tackling corrugated roads, exploring side tracks and taking the time to experience the country along the way.
